Cat Cafe & Adoption Center Manager
Full-time 40 hrs/wk
Mon-Fri 9-5
Salary starting $35,000.00/yr
Job Summary:
The Manager of Treetops Kitty Cafe & Rescue oversees the daily operations of a unique, community-centered space that combines a cozy café environment with a mission-driven cat rescue. The Manager will ensure that the café operates smoothly and efficiently while prioritizing the welfare of the cats and providing an exceptional experience for customers. This role requires a passion for animal welfare, excellent management skills, and a strong background in non-profit work. Experience working directly with animals (specifically cats) in a shelter, rescue, or veterinary environment is required. Reports to the President.
Operations Management:
- Develop and implement ways to bring in funding through Fundraising & Grants.
- Check on Volunteer/cleaning, open at 11:00, oversee daily operations, manage the retail section, manage inventory, and close at 4:00. If there was no volunteer that day, you must do those duties before or after opening.
- Operating systems: QuickBooks Online, SimplyBook, Google Workspace, Gmail, Microsoft 360.
- Ensure the café is clean, welcoming, and compliant with health and safety regulations.
Staff Management:
- Recruit, train, and manage café staff, including unpaid volunteers.
- Manage all Staff positions. Create and maintain staff schedules, ensuring adequate coverage at all times.
- Conduct regular performance evaluations and provide coaching and development opportunities.
Customer Experience:
- Ensure high customer satisfaction by providing excellent service and promptly addressing any concerns.
- Engage with customers to educate them about the rescue mission and encourage adoptions.
- Oversee the organization and hosting of all events and workshops that align with the café's mission and attract new customers.
- Be comfortable handling difficult situations and mitigate conflict.
- Educate the public about proper cat care and safe practices (e.g., promote spay/neuter, debunk popular opinions that create barriers to adoption, discourage declawing practices, etc.).
Cat Care and Welfare:
- Oversee the health and well-being of the resident cats, working closely with veterinary staff and volunteers.
- Ensure all cats are properly socialized and their environment is stress-free and enriching.
- Work closely with the Rescue Coordinator to ensure all cats are properly socialized and their environment is stress-free and enriching.
- Coordinate adoptions, including pre-screening potential adopters, facilitating the adoption process, and following up on adoptions.
- Be comfortable administering medications orally, topically, and subcutaneously when needed.
- Problem-solve difficult cats and provide them care despite behavioral barriers (for example: safely load a shy or semi-feral cat into a carrier or administer medications to a cat who does not like them).
- Make informed decisions about each cat's health, choosing how to handle medical cases within the scope of the Cafe’s abilities.
Marketing and Community Engagement:
- Develop and implement marketing strategies to promote the café, increase foot traffic, and drive adoptions.
- Manage social media accounts, creating engaging content that highlights café activities and available cats.
- Build relationships with local businesses, animal shelters, and community organizations to foster partnerships and sponsorships.
Volunteer Coordination:
The Volunteer Coordinator will recruit, train, and manage volunteers, ensuring the smooth operation of our café and cat rescue efforts.
- Key Responsibilities
- Recruitment & Onboarding: Actively recruit volunteers through various channels, conduct interviews, and manage the onboarding process.
- Scheduling & Coordination: Create and manage volunteer schedules, ensuring adequate coverage for café shifts, events, and special projects.
- Training & Support: Provide training and ongoing support for volunteers, offering guidance on cat care, café operations, and customer service.
- Volunteer Engagement: Foster a positive, inclusive environment by maintaining open communication with volunteers, organizing appreciation events, and addressing any issues or concerns.
- Record Keeping: Maintain accurate volunteer records, including contact information, availability, hours worked, and any required documentation.
- Special Scheduling: Respond quickly to volunteers when they call out and cover their shifts or find coverage. Send out reminders to volunteers scheduled on holidays to make sure they can keep their shifts and find coverage for them if they cannot.
- Administer medications: administer medications and monitor medication charts to ensure volunteers have given meds. This could be pills, eye ointments, subcutaneous fluids, etc.
Qualifications
- MUST BE 25 YEARS OR OLDER
- At least one year of experience in a rescue or shelter environment, either as a volunteer or in a paid position.
- Must be able to lift up to 30 lbs and climb a 6’ ladder.
Skills:
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Google, Gmail, and Canva.
- Excellent customer service and communication skills.
- Strong reasoning skills to handle a variety of situations.
- Expert animal handling skills or the willingness to learn.
Personal Traits:
- Strong attention to detail, punctuality, organization, and the ability to learn quickly.
- Willingness to Learn: Must be open to learning new systems and procedures.

*This job is not all about petting cats. You will be asked to clean the messes that cats leave behind (feces, urine, vomit, etc.). You are expected to stay on-task throughout the day despite having 20+ cats around you. You will inevitably get a lot of time interacting with the cats, but your main focus is client relations and creating a positive customer experience.*
